44th Annual Benton House Tour of Homes

The Benton House Association presents its annual Benton House Tour of Homes on Sunday, September 17th from 12 pm to 5pm. Celebrating its 44th year this year’s tour features many historical homes and landmarks, showcasing the rich history and architectural diversity of the Irvington community.

Tickets can be purchased at an advance price of $12 from:  Black Sheep Gifts at 5626 E. Washington accepts cash or check only . BookMamas at 9 S. Johnson Avenue accepts cash or check only. Central Ace Hardware at 1025 N. Arlington Avenue accepts all forms of payment.  Electronically through Eventbrite.  On the day of the event the cost is $15 and tickets can be purchased with cash at each home. Credit purchases only at the Benton House.

The theme of the tour this year is “Exploring a Century in Irvington” and features a variety of local residences and buildings, many of which are at or have already celebrated their centennial. We are proud to showcase spaces that have stood the test of time; we fully expect all of this year’s tour stops to be around for at least another 100 years!

The 2017 tour stops are as follows:

  • The Historic Benton House, 312 South Downey Avenue
    Built in 1873, the Benton House, once home of Butler University president Dr. Allen R. Benton is a magnificent piece of Indianapolis history. Also on the grounds enjoy a classic car show, live music by several area bands and a complimentary cupcake courtesy of Simply Divine Cupcakes!
  • Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Avenue
    The former library of the Butler University campus during its time in Irvington; now home to the Irvington Historical Society. Stop by and check out the wonderful museum space and exhibits.
  • 51 South Ritter Avenue
  • 303 North Irvington Avenue
  • 329 North Ritter Avenue
  • 477 North Audubon Road

    Stop by and visit the burial sites of some of Irvington’s earliest residents.
