The Irvington Historical Society is pleased to present Fredrick Polley (1875-1957) A Prolific Indianapolis Artist’s Retrospective an expansive collection of Polley’s work filling our main galleries.  Frederick Polley was an Irvington artist, teacher at John Herron and Arsenal Technical High School (1917-1941) and illustrator/columnist for regional newspapers, including the Indianapolis Sunday Star (1924-1947).  This exhibit will cover the body of his work.  It will open May 10 and run through July 30, 2017,  A presentation by avid collector and the exhibit’s curator, Rich Costello, will…

Attend the opening night of a unique exhibit and hear Gordon Yoshikawa speak of his experience living in a US internment camp as a young child. On December 7, 1941, the U.S. port of Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese warplanes. On February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt signed an executive order sending 120,000 Japanese Americans to remote internment camps. The exhibit, “Surpassing Adversity: The Japanese American Journey” celebrates the resilience of those Japanese Americans. They brought only what they could carry to ten prison camps in desolate areas of California, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming and Arkansas.
